What should I do?

Keeping a found object

  • If you find an item, you can choose whether to keep it yourself or drop it off at the municipality. 
  • If you find a larger item and do not want to keep it yourself, you can make a Make an appointment appointment with the municipality.

Becoming the owner of a found object

If you keep the item yourself:

  • When you file the report, indicate whether you want to take ownership of the found object.
  • Does the person who lost the object not collect it within 1 year? Then you become the owner of the object.

You deliver the item to the municipality:

  • You can become an owner only if the object has a value higher than €450.
  • You report 1 month before the expiration of the 1-year retention period.
  • The municipality is not required to warn you before the deadline expires.
  • Don't report in time? Then you can no longer claim the item.
  • If you decide to keep the item yourself, you must ensure that it remains in the same condition and does not deteriorate.

  • Drop off the document at City Hall.
  • You cannot report this online.
  • You should not keep these documents at home.

The municipality may not return a found ID or passport to its owner. These documents are immediately destroyed. No records are kept of this. The owner is not informed.

Keys

  • The municipality keeps found keys in a "key box. 
  • To inspect the key box, call 14 0181.

Keys found

  • Keys that are found can be returned to the municipality. You cannot report this online.
  • Found keys are not recorded and not posted on the website.
  • Key fobs and car keys do get recorded because there are often distinct characteristics to report.

Cell phone

Cell phone lost

  • You can stop by City Hall without an appointment.
  • Note! Please bring your cell phone charger with you.
  • A staff member will check for you if a phone has been found that matches your description.
  • Does one of the phones found match your description? Then we will pair the phone with the charger you brought with you.
  • Can we determine that it is indeed your cell phone? Then you will be given the phone.

Cell phone found

  • You can stop by City Hall without an appointment.
  • You hand the phone to one of our staff members.
  • You cannot report this online.
  • Found cell phones are kept for 3 months. After this, the phones are destroyed.

Bank card or credit card

  • Check with the bank the pass belongs to.

Bank card or credit card found

  • Return the pass to the bank the pass belongs to or send the pass to the bank.
  • You cannot report this online.

OV Chip Card

Environmental Pass

  • Drop off the environmental pass at City Hall.
  • You cannot report this online.

Bike

Bicycle lost

The municipality may have removed your bicycle. This happens if your bicycle is standing dangerously, for too long, or parked somewhere that is not allowed.

So your bike does not have to be stolen.

  • Call 14 0181.
  • Is your bike not parked at the municipality? Then report the theft.
  • Reporting can be done online or at a police station.
  • Your bicycle will then appear in the bicycle theft registry.

Bicycle found

Do you see a bicycle:

  • that stands unused for a long time (orphan bike)
  • is in a dangerous and/or unusual location
  • that has been severely neglected and can no longer ride (bicycle wreck)?

Leave the bicycle! You are committing theft otherwise.

(Animal lost or found

  • Find an animal in distress? Call (0900) 112 00 00. The control room will send an animal ambulance as soon as possible to help the animal.
  • Register your missing or found pet through the Amivedi Foundation.
