Passport

• You apply for a passport at the municipality.
• If you are applying for a passport for your child, the child must come with you.
• Your passport will include your fingerprints. Make sure your fingers are clean.
• Children under 12 do not need to give their fingerprints.
• You will pick up your passport in person at the reception desk. You must make an appointment to do so.
• When you pick up a passport for your child, the child must come with you.
• If you want to keep your old passport, you must specifically ask for it. Otherwise, your old passport will be destroyed.

Physical or mental disability

If a physical or mental disability prevents you from applying for a passport in person, a municipality employee may come to you. If in doubt, the municipality will ask you for a medical certificate.

If a temporary physical disability prevents you from getting your fingerprints, you will get a passport that is valid for 1 year. If your disability is permanent, you will get a passport that is valid for 10 years.

• Children must have their own travel documents and may no longer be credited in their parents' passports.
• If you are traveling abroad with your child and you have a different last name, you will need proof that you are the father or mother or have parental authority.

Do you need your passport quickly? Then you can make a rush application. If you submit the rush application before 2 p.m., you can usually pick up your travel document the next business day after 10 a.m. At the offices in Brielle or Rockanje, the rush procedure takes at least 48 hours.

If your passport or ID is lost or stolen, you can apply for a new one. Do you need to travel immediately? Then you can request an emergency passport from the Royal Military Police.

• An accurate looking passport photo that
  • is not older than 6 months at the time of application
  • meets passport photo requirements.
• There are photo booths at the ticket office in Brielle and at the city hall in Hellevoetsluis. You can only pay contactless at the photo booths. If you have gray or light blond hair, we advise you to take a photo at the specialist. 
• All passports and identity cards you still have. Even if they have expired.
• If you are applying for a second passport, bring proof that you need the second passport.
• If your passport was lost or stolen abroad, take the foreign police report with you.
• Debit card or cash. You pay directly at the time of application.

Children up to 18 years of age

• Written consent from both parents or the person with custody of the child. Please use the form below. You can also both sign at the application in the town hall. In this case you do not need to bring a completed form.
• The original proof of identity or passport of both parents or the person with custody of the child. 
• Children must be present in person when applying for and collecting their passports.
• At least one parent or guardian must be present at the time of application.
• An accurate looking passport photo that is not older than 6 months at the time of application. The passport photo must meet the passport photo requirements.
• All passports and ID cards you still have of your child. Even if they have expired.
• Debit card or cash. You pay directly at the time of application.
• There are photo booths at the ticket office in Brielle and at the city hall in Hellevoetsluis. To take a passport photo in this booth, your child must be at least 1.40 meters tall. You can only pay contactless at the photo booths. 

To apply for, renew or replace your passport, you must make an appointment.

You can pick up your passport after 6 business days. If you made a rush application before 2 p.m., you can usually pick up your passport the next business day after 10 a.m. Please note that a rush application can take up to 3 business days. 

If you no longer have your old passport and you have no other proof of identity, the municipality conducts research to determine your identity. As a result, it may take longer for you to get your passport.

To pick up your passport, you must an appointment. You must pick up the travel document within three months. Otherwise it will be destroyed.

Passport collection appointment

• If you are not a Dutch national, you may be eligible for a Refugee Passport or an Alien's passport.
• If you are under guardianship, you can apply for an ID yourself. You don't need permission from the curator.
• If you change your name, you must apply for a new travel document.
• If you change gender, you must apply for a new travel document.

Validity

A passport is valid for 10 years if you are 18 years or older. If you are under 18, a passport is valid for 5 years.
