Apply for a passport

You must always apply for and pick up a passport in person at city hall. This also applies to children.

Applying for a Passport with a Disability

If you are unable to come to city hall in person due to a physical or mental disability, a city employee can come to you. If we have any doubts, we may ask you for a medical certificate.

If you are unable to provide fingerprints due to a temporary physical disability, you will receive a passport that is valid for 1 year. If you have a permanent disability, you will receive a passport that is valid for 10 years.

Traveling with children

Children need their own travel document. They may no longer be listed on their parents' passport.

Are you traveling abroad with your child, and do you and your child have different last names? If so, you'll need proof that you are the parent or have parental authority.

Passport lost or stolen

Has your passport or ID been lost or stolen? If so, you can apply for a new travel document.

Do you need to travel immediately? If so, you can apply for an emergency passport at through the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.

Rush application

Do you need your passport quickly? If so, you can submit an expedited application.

If you submit your expedited application before 2:00 p.m., you can usually pick up your travel document the next business day after 10:00 a.m. At the Rockanje office, the expedited process takes at least 48 hours.

The expedited process takes up to 3 business days. For an expedited request, please always call 14 0181.

What are you bringing?

• A clear, well-defined passport photo taken no more than 6 months prior to the date of application and that meets the passport photo requirements at .
• All passports and identity cards you still have. Even if they have expired.
• Documentation explaining why you need a second passport when you apply for one.
• The foreign police report if your passport is lost or stolen while abroad.
• A debit card or cash. You pay immediately when you submit your application.

There are photo booths at the service desk in Rockanje and at the town hall in Hellevoetsluis. You can only pay by contactless payment there. Do you have gray or light blond hair? If so, we recommend that you have your passport photo taken by a professional.

Apply for a Passport for Your Child

Children up to age 18 can apply for a passport on their own. To do so, they need permission from all persons who have parental authority.

Submit consent form travel document application

The authorized individuals can also sign the form during the appointment at City Hall. In that case, you do not need to bring a completed form with you.

When submitting the application:

• Your child is here in person.
• At least one parent or guardian is present.
• Please bring the original identification document or passport of both parents, or of the person who has legal custody of the child.
• Please bring a clear, recent passport photo taken within the last 6 months that meets the passport photo requirements at .
• Please bring all of your child's passports and ID cards, even if they have expired.
• Please bring a debit card or cash. You'll pay right away when you submit your application.

There are photo booths at the service counter in Rockanje and at the town hall in Hellevoetsluis. Your child must be at least 1.40 meters tall to have a passport photo taken in this booth. You can only pay using contactless payment methods.

Your fingerprints will be taken when you apply. Therefore, please Health to ensure your fingers are clean. Children under the age of 12 do not need to have their fingerprints taken.

Please pick up your passport in person at the front desk. Please make an appointment to do so.

Passport collection appointment

If you are picking up a passport for your child, your child must accompany you.

You can pick up your travel document at the location where you applied for it. You must pick it up within 3 months. 

You can pick up your passport no later than 6 business days from now.

If you no longer have your old passport and do not have any other form of identification, we will first verify your identity. This may result in a delay in receiving your passport.

Would you like to keep your old passport? If so, please request this when you apply. Otherwise, we will destroy your old passport.

Validity

A passport is valid for 10 years if you are 18 years of age or older. Are you younger than 18? Then your passport is valid for 5 years.

Refugee passport or Alien's passport

If you do not have Dutch citizenship, you may be able to apply for a refugee passport or Alien's passport apply for one.

Under guardianship

Are you under guardianship? If so, you can also apply for a " ID ." You do not need permission from your guardian to do so.

Name Change

Is your name changing? If so, you'll need to apply for a new travel document.

Gender change

Are you changing your gender? If so, you must apply for a new travel document.

A secure copy of your ID

Be on the lookout for identity fraud. Criminals can misuse fake or stolen identity information. 

With the KopieID app, you can use your smartphone to make a secure copy of your passport, ID , or driver's license.
