Childcare allowance

Childcare allowance is a (partial) reimbursement of childcare costs. For example, if your children attend a daycare center, out-of-school care or a guest parent.

You can apply for the supplement if:

  • you and your partner work during the day
  • you are in training
  • you receive benefits

How much allowance you will receive depends on your income level, the number of children and the type of care. At the Belastingdienst you can make a trial calculation to see how much childcare allowance you can get.

How does it work?

You can get the allowance for the following types of child care:

  • Day care in a nursery or day care center.
  • Extracurricular care of children aged 4 to 12.
  • Guest parent care. You can only receive allowance for a guest parent who is registered with a registered guest parent agency.
  • Parent participation creches where a group of parents take turns caring for their own children.
  • Own nanny. The babysitter is registered as a host parent and you pay the babysitter white. You can arrange this through a host parent agency.
  • Toddler care of children aged 2.5 to 4 years.
