Work on trees

The municipality of Voorne aan Zee takes good care of its trees. That is why inspections and maintenance are important. We inspect our trees once every three years. Trees that have a problem but do not pose an immediate danger are called “trees requiring attention.” These trees are inspected every year by a tree safety inspector.
This inspection may yield the following results:

  • Tree in perfect condition:
    The tree meets the requirements. No further maintenance is needed.
     
  • Hazardous Tree:
    For example, the tree has a dead branch or branches that hang too low for traffic. We’ll prune the tree.
     
  • Tree removal:
    Sometimes the inspection reveals that a tree cannot be preserved, for example because: 
    • the tree has poor prospects for the future
    • the tree is dying or is already dead
    • The tree must be removed as part of street or neighborhood redevelopment

In all cases, the municipality tries to replant a new tree at or near the spot where the old tree stood. If that is not possible, we look for another location in the neighborhood. 

Plant more trees than you cut down

Every year, the municipality plants more trees than we cut down. In doing so, we focus on biodiversity, species diversity, and climate adaptation. This is how we ensure a healthy and diverse tree population. 

Below is a list of trees that will soon be cut down (and replaced where possible):

Brielle

  • Batterijweg
    The municipality is cutting down two birch trees because they did not take root after being planted. We will replace the two birch trees at the same location.
     
  • Bicycle path along Het Spui
    The city is cutting down seven elms because the trees are affected by Dutch elm disease. We will replant eight ash trees in the same location.

    The city is cutting down a chestnut tree because it is dead. We are replanting a wingnut tree on the lawn at Moolenwater 12.

    The municipality is cutting down an acacia tree because it is in poor condition. We cannot plant a new tree at this location. Behind the apartment complex on Dennenspanner, we are planting a Hungarian oak.
     

  • The municipality is cutting down a tulip tree because it did not take root after being planted. We will plant a new tulip tree in its place.
     
  • 11 Duindoornstraat
    The municipality is cutting down an alder because the tree has a rotten base. We are replanting a linden tree in the same spot.
     

  • The municipality is cutting down a hawthorn and a maple because the trees are in poor condition. We cannot plant new trees in these locations. We are therefore looking for another place to replant the trees.
     
  • Ducat Butterfly 6
    The municipality is cutting down a maple tree because it grew unintentionally in the park when it was a young sapling. The tree is now pressing against a garage and therefore cannot remain standing. Replanting is not possible.
     
  • Evertsenplein
    The city is cutting down a columnar oak because the tree is in poor condition. We will replant a columnar oak in the same spot.
