• You and your partner are both 18 years of age or older. Are you or is your partner a minor and you want to get married? Then contact the municipality first.
   
• You are both unmarried and do not have a registered partnership with anyone else.
   
• Are you under guardianship? If so, you need permission from the curator or district judge.
   
• You submit your notification of intended marriage or registered partnership to the municipality where you are getting married. With the notification, you can choose a date on which you will get married. You can make the notification no earlier than 1 year before the wedding or partnership date.
• If you make a notification for a marriage or partnership within eight weeks before the ceremony, we can process the notification as soon as a registrar is available. 
   
• You cannot reserve a date for marriage or registered partnership until 14 days after the notification is received completely by us. We will process the notification only if you meet all the Requirements . The Requirements are listed under the heading "What do I need to do?".
   
• At a wedding ceremony, a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 adult witnesses must be present.
   
• Your personal data (of yourself, parents, divorce and/or partnerships) must be correct in the Basic Registration of PersonsBRP). Check this with your DigiD on the mijnoverheid.nl website. If your information is incorrect or missing, call the municipality as soon as possible on 14 0181.
   
• Using the "Report marriage or partnership (DigiD)" button, you can see the availability of the locations. You do not need to log in with DigiD to do this.
   
• You can create a playlist of up to 3 songs for the wedding ceremony via spotify. Via bluetooth it can be played during the wedding ceremony. Don't forget to download the playlist at home.
   
• You cannot cancel or change a reserved date for a wedding over the phone. This can only be done in person, by e-mail or in writing. A fee will be charged for cancellation.
   

If your partner does not have the Dutch nationality, he or she must first submit a "Declaration of no sham marriage. With this your partner declares not to marry you for a residence permit. The IND checks this declaration.

You do not need this statement if you:

• Both have the nationality of one of these countries.
• Both have indefinite residence permits.
• Both have indefinite asylum permits.
• Want to register a foreign marriage older than 10 years in the Netherlands.
• Want to register a terminated foreign marriage in the Netherlands.

Before collecting documents, contact the municipality first. In certain situations, the municipality already has the necessary information through the Municipal Records Database.

Before reporting

• If you were born abroad or have a non-Dutch nationality please contact us before reporting. You cannot report the marriage online. If you do report the marriage online, we will not be able to process your application.
• Choose your type of ceremony (free). You can view venues using the button at the top of the page.
• Choose a date, wedding location and start time for the ceremony. The wedding officiant will start exactly at the specified time. If the chosen date is within eight weeks before the ceremony, we can process the notification as soon as a registrar is available. 
• Choose your witnesses. This can be 2, 3 or 4 witnesses (total). Anyone over the age of 18 may be a witness. In a free ceremony, you can use witnesses from the municipality for a fee.
• Choose your wedding officiant (this is not possible with a free ceremony), see the wedding officiants page.
• Choose which last name you want to use, see the change last name usage page.

Needed at the time of notification

• DigiD login credentials of you and your partner.
• Copy of ID of you and your partner.
• Copy ID of witnesses.
• If you are under supervision (guardianship), permission is needed from the trustee or district judge.
• Contract wedding location (if you are marrying somewhere other than Brielle Town Hall, Rockanje Town Hall or Hellevoetsluis Town Hall).
• You will pay the cost of the ceremony in the online application. If the fee is not paid in the online application, we cannot process your notification.

• Only the official act (maximum 15 minutes), no speech.
• Monday or Tuesday at 9 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. (excluding special holidays).
• No preliminary interview with the wedding officiant.
• No choice of wedding officiant.
• No opportunity for personal input such as music.
• Maximum number of 6 people (including bride and groom and witnesses).
• Formality takes place in a consultation room in the civil affairs department.
