Here's how it works
Before you get married or enter into a registered partnership, you must meet certain Requirements . There are also rules regarding the notification and scheduling of your marriage or partnership. Below, you can read about the applicable rules.
Before reporting
- Choose your type of ceremony (free). You can view the venues by clicking the button at the top of the page.
- Choose a date, wedding venue, and start time for the ceremony. The wedding officiant will begin exactly at the specified time. Is the chosen date within 8 weeks of the ceremony? If so, we can process your application as soon as a civil registrar is available.
- Choose your witnesses. You may have 2, 3, or 4 witnesses. Anyone over the age of 18 may serve as a witness. For a free ceremony, you may use witnesses provided by the municipality for a fee.
- Choose your officiant. This option is not available for free ceremonies. View the officiants.
- Choose which last name you want to use. Review the information about using your last name.
Were you born abroad, or do you hold a non-Dutch nationality? If so, please contact us first before filing the notification. In that case, you cannot file the marriage notification online. If you file the notification online anyway, we will not be able to process your application.
Requirements and rules
- You and your partner are both 18 years of age or older. Are you or your partner a minor, and do you want to get married? If so, please contact us first.
- You are both unmarried and are not in a registered partnership with anyone else.
- Are you under guardianship? If so, you need permission from the curator or district judge.
- You submit your notification of intended marriage or registered partnership to the municipality where you are getting married. With the notification, you can choose a date on which you will get married. You can make the notification no earlier than 1 year before the wedding or partnership date.
- You cannot reserve a date for your wedding or registered partnership until at least 14 days after we have received your complete application. We will only process your application if you meet all the Requirements requirements.
- At a wedding ceremony, a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 adult witnesses must be present.
- Your personal information—including your own details, those of your parents, and information regarding divorces and/or partnerships—must be accurate in the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP). Please verify this using your DigiD at MijnOverheid. If your information is incorrect or incomplete, please call us as soon as possible at 14 0181.
- You cannot cancel or change a reserved date for a wedding over the phone. This can only be done in person, by e-mail or in writing. A fee will be charged for cancellation.
What do I need to bring to the application?
To file your report, you will need the following:
- Your and your partner's DigiD login credentials.
- A copy of your and your partner's identification.
- A copy of the witnesses' identification documents.
- Are you under guardianship? If so, you need permission from the curator or district judge.
- A confirmation of the wedding venue if you are getting married somewhere other than the Brielle City Hall, the Rockanje Town Hall, or the Hellevoetsluis Town Hall. Please email this to burgerlijkestand@voorneaanzee.nl, including your names and the date of the ceremony.
- You must pay the ceremony fee during the online application process. If you do not pay the fee during the online application, we will not be able to process your application.

How long does it take?
You may submit your notice of marriage or registered partnership up to 1 year before the desired date.
You cannot reserve a date for your wedding or registered partnership until at least 14 days after we have received the complete notification.
If you submit your application at least 8 weeks before the ceremony, we can process it as soon as a civil registrar is available.

Additional information
Free wedding
Getting married for free is only possible if you or your partner lives in Voorne aan Zee .
A maximum of 6 people are allowed. This includes the bride and groom and the witnesses.
- Only the official ceremony, lasting no more than 15 minutes. There will be no speech.
- Monday or Tuesday at 9:00 or 9:30 a.m., except on major holidays.
- No preliminary interview with the wedding officiant.
- No choice of wedding officiant.
- No option to add your own content, such as music.
- The procedure takes place in a consultation room in the Civil Affairs Department.
Marrying a non-Native
If your partner does not have Dutch citizenship, he or she must first submit a “Declaration of No Sham Marriage.” With this declaration, your partner states that he or she is not marrying you for the purpose of obtaining a residence permit. The IND will verify this declaration.
You do not need this declaration if you:
- hold citizenship of one of these countries: ;
- both of you have a permanent residence permit;
- both of you have permanent asylum status;
- you want to have a foreign marriage that took place more than 10 years ago registered in the Netherlands;
- want to have a dissolved foreign marriage registered in the Netherlands.

Music during the ceremony
You can create your own playlist of up to 3 songs for the wedding ceremony using Spotify. The playlist can be played during the ceremony via Bluetooth. Don't forget to download the playlist at home.
