Sewer clogging
There are two types of sewers in the municipality of Voorne aan Zee :
- Free-fall sewers (within urban areas)
- Pressure sewers (outside urban areas)
Below we recommend what to do in case of a sewer blockage (depending on the type of sewer system).
Free-fall sewers (within urban areas)
Do you live in a house you own?
Is the water in your toilet, shower, or sink not draining properly? Then there may be a sewer blockage. Is the blockage on your own property? Then you will have to resolve this yourself. Is the blockage on municipal property? Then the municipality will resolve this.
Where is the blockage?
To find out where the blockage is, you will need to dig up the boundary pit. This is the last pit in your sewer connection. It is usually located about half a meter inside your property. Look inside the pit:
- Is the pit full of wastewater? Then the blockage is on municipal land.
- Is the pit empty? Then the blockage is on your own property.
Can't find the sewer connection? Then you can call in a drain cleaning company. They will help you find it. You will always have to pay the costs for this, even if the blockage turns out to be on municipal land.
Important to know
- Never allow a self-selected drain cleaning company to work on municipal sewer systems.
- If you do so anyway, you will be responsible for all costs.
- You cannot claim expenses from the municipality after the fact.
Blockage on municipal land
Report a public space issue:
Emergency or disaster? Call the municipality on 140181 (also outside office hours and on public holidays).
Choose a reliable unclogging company
Be careful when choosing a drain cleaning company.
Please note:
- Some emergency companies charge high fees. They sometimes say that you can claim the costs back from the municipality. This is not true.
- It is better not to search only on ads at the top of Google.
- Make clear agreements in advance about price and work to be done.
- Request written confirmation of the costs.
- Do not sign if everything has not been clearly filled in.
- Check whether your home or contents insurance covers anything.
Do you live in a rental property?
The same rules apply to tenants. Do you live in a property owned by the municipal housing association Woonbedrijf Voorne aan Zee? If so, you can participate in the drain unblocking fund.

Pressure sewers (outside urban areas)
At properties in the outlying area, in most cases the wastewater is pumped out via small sewage pumping stations. This pumping station is located near your home and has a red (failure) lamp at the top. In case of a sewerage failure, first check to see if this lamp is lit.
Red lamp
If this light is on, there is a malfunction in the pump unit. You can contact Kwakernaak BV's emergency service on weekdays during and outside office hours and on public holidays.
