Are you suffering from pests such as rats, mice or wasps? If so, you need to hire a company to control the pests yourself. For smaller problems, such as ants or aphids, you can often do something yourself. You are responsible for controlling pests in your own home or garden.

Only if there are pests in public areas will the municipality provide its own control. Make a report at the bottom of the page.

Rat Control

Pests cause many nuisances. For example, rats and mice can spread diseases and cause damage to cables. The Municipality of Voorne aan Zee commissions the tackling of rats in public areas. This is necessary because they are a danger to public health. Please notify the municipality if you see several rats in public spaces. The municipality does not remove rats on its own property. Do you have a rat in your home or in your garden or yard? Then hire a company to remove the rat yourself.

What can I do do?

In the neighborhood/outdoor space

  • Do not feed bread or food scraps to other animals, such as ducks, pigeons or gulls. This is because rats are also attracted to these.
  • Don't leave food scraps lying around and throw them in the trash can

In and around the house

  • Repair or replace air vents, broken sewer pipes, downspouts or tiles.
  • No storage of materials against the facade of your home.
  • Prune shrubs especially at the base and along gables.
  • Store food for your pets in sealable barrels.
  • Put your trash bag directly into the (underground) Waste container. Is the underground container full? Then please move on to another container further down the street.
  • Do you have bulky waste or trash that won't fit in the dumpster? Bring it to the Environmental park in your hometown.
  • Seal air holes, cracks and basement access, but Health still provides adequate ventilation.
  • Prevent nesting opportunities when storing fireplace wood or prunings.

Are you renting a property? 

Your landlord should maintain your property properly. Therefore, report rat nuisance to your housing association for when repairs may be needed.

As a (hospitality) entrepreneur

  • Put trash in the trash containers.
  • Close the lids of trash cans and containers.
  • Health that under the 1100-liter waste containers is a leak cap. This prevents rats from crawling into the container through the leak hole.
