• If you want to change your last name or that of your child, first check the Justis brochure Name Change to see if this is possible. Justis is part of the Ministry of Justice and Security.
  • If your situation is in this brochure, you can apply for a name change at Justis.

What should I do?

You will automatically be notified if your last name is changed. You will then receive an official extract from the Royal Decree.

Customizing documents

  • If your last name has officially changed, it must also be changed in your ID. Therefore, apply for a new passport, ID and/or driver's license.
  • Health also make sure you inform all agencies of your changed name. You do not need to inform the municipality separately. It already automatically receives an extract of the Royal Decree.

How long does it take?

You will be notified through Justis within 20 weeks whether your last name will be changed. This may take longer if your application is not complete.

Objecting

If you disagree with the decision, you can file an objection with Justis within 6 weeks.
