Cleaning up dead animal

Different rules apply to the disposal of dead animals (carcasses), depending on the type of animal and the circumstances.

What should I do?

Dead animals in the water

Do you see a dead animal in the water? Report it to the Hollandse Delta Water Board. Do not remove the animals yourself.

Dead animals along the road

Do you see a dead animal along the road or in another place? If so, alert the municipality via a public space report or the animal ambulance. Is a large dead animal lying in the middle of the road? Then contact us by phone at 14 0181.

Dead pet

Your dead pet should not go in the trash. Not even if it is very small. You can do a number of things with your deceased pet:

  • You can have it picked up by the animal ambulance.
  • You can have it buried or cremated.
  • You can drop it off at a special collection point provided by the municipality.
  • You can bury it in your own garden or on your own property. The grave must then be at least 75 centimeters deep. You may not wrap the dead animal in plastic or other substances harmful to the soil.

Dead hobby animal

Is your pony, goat or sheep dead? Report it immediately to the approved rendering company Rendac. This company collects and processes the carcass. Only the carcass of a horse may also be burned in a special pet crematorium. A hobby animal may not be buried on private property.

Injured or dead deer

Do you see an injured or dead deer along the road or in another place? If so, alert the police. The police will then contact the fall game coordinator of the responsible game management unit. The fall game coordinator will remove the injured or dead roe deer.
