Windmills Haringvliet Dam
Along the Haringvliet Dam, on the side of the Haringvliet, there will be two new windmills. A plan for this has been developed and researched by the company E-Connection.
Two new wind turbines
There are currently six wind turbines on the North Sea side of the Haringvliet Dam. They have been there since 1997 and are 62 m high. They will be replaced by two new, larger wind turbines (maximum 200 m high) on the inside of the dam, the Haringvliet side. E-Connection, the company that also operates the current wind turbines has drawn up the plans for this. To make the new wind turbines possible, the zoning plan has been amended and the necessary permits have been applied for. The amended zoning plan establishes local standards that state what the wind project must meet in terms of noise, cast shadow and external safety. Drop shadow is about the moving shadow that rotating wind turbines cast on their surroundings. External safety is about safety risks to people and the environment.
What is the current status of the formal process?
On June 8, 2023, the project was discussed in the City Council's Space Committee. As a result, a motion was drafted aimed at tightening the noise standards and their enforceability. On June 22, 2023, this motion was passed and the City Council approved it with a large majority to adopt the zoning plan.
Objections to the zoning plan have been filed with the State Council by several parties. A hearing date is not yet known.
The zoning plan can also be viewed digitally via the website nl under the IMRO code NL.IMRO.0530.BPWindpark2020-VG01 or by zooming in on the Map.
Why new wind turbines?
The municipality of Voorne aan Zee is to place wind turbines with a combined capacity of 12 MW (megawatts) in Hellevoetsluis. This was agreed upon several years ago by the former municipality of Hellevoetsluis with the province and the regional municipalities. The location on the Haringvliet Dam has also been fixed for some time. Several locations were in the picture until a few years ago. The former municipality of Hellevoetsluis chose the location that would cause the least inconvenience to its residents. And that is the location at the Haringvlietdam.
The original plan was to place three wind turbines, which will now be two. The reason is that one of three new wind turbines would be placed on a spot where the "block dam" used in the construction of the Haringvliet Dam lies. But that is not possible. It has been investigated whether two wind turbines can also produce approximately the same amount of energy as the agreed upon three turbines, and it appears to be possible.
