Windmills Haringvliet Dam

On this page, you can read more about the Haringvlietdam wind turbine project.

What are we going to do?

Two new wind turbines are being built along the Haringvliet Dam, on the Haringvliet side.
The six existing wind turbines on the North Sea side of the Haringvliet Dam date from 1997. These will be replaced by two more modern wind turbines with a maximum tip height of 200 meters. The new wind turbines will be installed on the inner side of the dam, on the Haringvliet side. E-Connection, the operator of the existing turbines, is developing and implementing the project.

Why are we doing this?

This project contributes to the generation of renewable energy. The two new wind turbines will replace the six existing wind turbines along the Haringvliet Dam and, together, will generate more renewable electricity. The site has been designated for wind energy for quite some time.

When does what happen?

On June 22, 2023, the city council adopted the zoning plan for the construction of two wind turbines on the Haringvliet Dam. An appeal against the zoning plan has been filed with the Council of State. The hearing on these appeals is scheduled for November 17, 2026.

The zoning plan can also be viewed digitally via the website nl under the IMRO code NL.IMRO.0530.BPWindpark2020-VG01 or by zooming in on the Map.

Temporary Monitoring System, July–October 2026

During the week of July 20, 2026, a temporary monitoring station will be installed near the future site of one of the wind turbines.

What does the measurement system do?

The measuring station consists of four concrete blocks stacked on top of a concrete slab, with measuring equipment mounted on top. The total height is approximately 3.5 meters. For safety reasons, the station is cordoned off with a construction fence.

The monitoring system is designed to conduct measurements for the wind project. These measurements are necessary to gain a better understanding of the presence and activity of bats. The results will be used to determine what safety measures the future wind turbines must incorporate to minimize the impact on bats as much as possible.

No start of construction work

The installation of the monitoring system does not mark the start of construction work on the wind turbines. It is solely a temporary research setup that is expected to be removed in October 2026.
