Alderman Spoon visiting JRM Medical in Hellevoetsluis

On Wednesday, March 19, Alderman Aart Jan Spoon (economics) visited JRM Medical at Kickersbloem 3 in Hellevoetsluis. Director Jasmijn van Diest welcomed the Alderman, along with Jeroen van de Velde and Paul van der Zon, to their office on Beaufortweg.

JRM Medical supplies high-quality medical equipment for heat management (heat beds and incubators for preemies and newborns), phototherapy (against jaundice), plasma, blood and infusion heating, and measuring and testing equipment for electrical safety, ventilation and medical gases. All medical equipment is checked and calibrated once a year (to make sure it measures values correctly).

The family business has a long history within the medical field. Father Van Diest started the company in 1996 as an independent medical technician and added sales of various medical equipment a few years later. Meanwhile, daughter Van Diest is director, mother works with the company and father arranges management and service of medical technical equipment through a second company.
Jeroen has worked as an ICU and emergency room nurse for more than 20 years and Paul is an electrical engineer, or as he says himself, "a spark puller. The team is looking for reinforcement in a product specialist who is clinical-technical and commercial. Because of the specialized work it is difficult to find the right candidate and it is necessary to train internally.

Jeroen says home care nursing is on the rise. "When you are nursed at home, you sleep better and eat what you like." JRM Medical has marketed a device with an app that allows patients to measure a number of physical functions themselves at home. Alderman Spoon thought this was an interesting development and wanted to know how it works, after which he was given a small demonstration.

Despite innovation being hampered by laws and regulations, the team remains alert to medical developments. Sustainability is also a high priority; equipment that has been replaced but can still be used for a number of years is donated to charity.
