Alderman Peter Schop visits energy-efficient home during national sustainable home tour

Alderman Peter Schop visited an energy-efficient home in Brielle during the national Sustainable Homes Tour, where homeowners show how they have made their homes more sustainable. November 8 is the last chance to view these inspiring homes and take steps toward energy conservation yourself.

On Saturday, November 1, Alderman Peter Schop visited a sustainably renovated home in Brielle, as part of the national Sustainable Homes Route. During this route, homeowners throughout the Netherlands will open their doors November 1-8 to show how they have made their homes more energy efficient.

Mr. and Mrs. Louer's home in Brielle shows that with relatively simple modifications, a big difference can be made in the energy consumption of an older 1972 home. Among other things, they installed ten solar panels, cook on induction, use a pallet stove, and their home is double-glazed and in some places even triple-glazed. They also insulated the cavity walls and roof, and installed a sedum roof. Thanks to these measures, they have very low energy costs. Alderman Peter Schop is enthusiastic about the house tour; "It's nice that people are opening up their homes to show what you can do yourself to save energy."
