Alderman Aart Jan Spoon congratulates Varekamp on his anniversary
On Saturday June 15th Alderman Aart Jan Spoon (economics) to the Rik in Tinte for the 70th anniversary of agricultural contracting and arable farming company Gebr. Varekamp vof and the 25th anniversary of earthmoving company Varekamp Grondverzet bv. The family business had opened its doors to the public for these special occasions.
Alderman Spoon congratulated the Varekamp family and presented them with a beautiful bouquet of flowers on behalf of the board of Mayor and Aldermen. Stefan Varekamp, one of the sons from the third generation of the family, gave the Alderman a tour of the machines: from potato bunker harvesters to onion loaders.
Large machines with new technology
Stefan proudly tells about the new technology and techniques they use. The 'cockpit' of the machines no longer contains a simple steering wheel, but is equipped with screens. Stefan: "The machines are now so big that cameras are needed to be able to see if everything is going well during the work."
The large machines in particular take up a lot of space and are therefore only placed on the various sites for the open days. The shed where the potatoes are normally stored has been cleared out to show the smaller machines. “We still have two locations where machines and equipment are housed. Some machines are only used for a few weeks a year and are then stored there. The earthmoving equipment, the trucks and the smaller tools are in use every day,” says Stefan.
Alderman Aart Jan Spoon: “Now that it's all together, you can see how much different equipment Varekamp actually has.” In addition to working for the agricultural sector, the Varekamp brothers also provide services in civil engineering and hydraulic engineering and rent out earthmoving machinery.
