Work on public space
We think it is important to keep public spaces in Voorne aan Zee neat, clean and safe. Work regularly takes place to maintain, repair or replace them. This is also done by external parties. Below is an overview of the work currently taking place within the municipality of Voorne aan Zee.
Work on electricity grid reinforcement by Stedin
In Voorne aan Zee , Stedin owns the electricity grid. We are using more and more electricity and generating more electricity as well. As a result, the electricity grid is becoming full. To ensure that the electricity grid can cope with this increasing demand, the electricity grid must be strengthened. Network operator Stedin is going to invest heavily in the coming years to strengthen the grid. Also in our municipality.
Due to increasing demand, the power grid in every neighborhood needs to be upgraded. Chances are that Stedin will also have to work in your street. In order to minimize the inconvenience, the municipality is looking together with Stedin at the best way to do this.
Upcoming work
In the coming period, Stedin will be performing work in the following neighborhoods:
- Brielle: De Kapel and Surroundings, Ommeloop and Zuurland
- Hellevoetsluis: Rijksstraatweg, Marinebuurt, Vogelbuurt and Dorp, Hoonaart, Ravense Hoek (Mother Teresa Avenue)
- Oostvoorne
Before Stedin starts work, you will be informed by Stedin through a letter. Once Stedin starts work in your neighborhood, they will be happy to keep you informed of the current schedule and developments via the StedinBouwt app. You can also contact Stedin via the StedinBouwt app. Download the StedinBouwt app via the Google play store or App store.
Maarland North Side/Dijkstraat in Brielle
From Monday, February 16, through Friday, March 20, Stedin will be replacing the electrical cables in Maarland Noordzijde and Dijkstraat in Brielle.
Local residents have received a letter from Stedin with more information and details of the planned work. The road will become one-way between house numbers 1 and 51 on the north side of Maarland. No parking will be allowed along the quay. The charging stations and disabled parking spaces will remain accessible.
Work in the event of malfunctions
In addition, Stedin continuously monitors the electricity grid. To prevent outages, work is also carried out that is not neighborhood-oriented.
Sample trenches
To make the final plans, it is necessary to know exactly where the existing power lines are located. Stedin does this by digging open a small section of the road. We call this "trial trenches." The test trenches are always closed again immediately.
It is possible that test trenches are already being dug in your street, but that you have not yet received a letter. This is due to preparations for the later work.

Construction of fiber optic Hellevoetsluis
Recently, fiber optics have been installed in the built-up area of Hellevoetsluis. The municipality is not a client for the installation of fiber optics. Since the privatization of telecom companies in the 1990s, each telecom company may decide for itself to lay a network in public land. The municipality must allow this.
Odido (T-mobile)
Over the past year, Open Dutch Fiber BV (in cooperation with Odido, formerly T-mobile) has constructed a fiber optic network in the built-up area of Hellevoetsluis. This work is now almost complete. ODF only needs to make some house connections from the sidewalk to the homes.
KPN
Meanwhile, a permit has also been granted to KPN Telecom / Glaspoort. They will do the same: in every street in the Hellevoetsluis residential area, KPN will also install a fiber optic network. KPN started digging on both sides of the canal at the end of August. In most streets: open in the morning, closed again in the evening. The expectation is that it will take a year before KPN has installed fiber optics throughout Hellevoetsluis.
Two providers
Two different providers means more inconvenience from excavation work, but competition also means lower rates for our residents. Unfortunately, it was not possible to have work done by both providers at the same time.
Will your home be connected?
If you want to know if your home also qualifies for connection to either provider, you can see it on the website of the respective provider.
For residents of Oudenhoorn:
If fiber optic cable is indeed being laid in your street, you will receive a letter from the provider in your mailbox a few weeks before the digging work begins.
The pieces of fiber optic cable sticking out at each home are the future house connections for each home. At the property boundary of each home, the fiber optic cable lies on a roll in the ground and one blade sticks out. Several more home connections will be realized in the coming period; an exact completion date is not yet known. Before the end of the project, the protruding fiber optic cables will be cut off above ground level.
Complaints?
The municipality has deployed additional supervision on this project to ensure that the provider performs the construction in the public space properly, and leaves the pavement neat.
In case of complaints, please contact the respective provider.
For persistent complaints about public space restoration, contact the municipality.
Laying fiberglass Zwartewaal and Vierpolders
KPN Telecom / Glaspoort started laying fiber optic cables in Zwartewaal and Vierpolders at the beginning of November 2025. Residents will receive a letter in the mail with more information before the work begins. Shops and homes will remain accessible via walkways. The work will take approximately six months.
Municipality not a client
The municipality is not a client for the construction of fiber optics. Since the privatization of telecom companies in the 1990s, each telecom company may decide for itself to build a network in public land. The municipality must allow it.
Complaints?
If you have any complaints, please contact KPN / Glaspoort.
