Statement under oath or promise
The municipality keeps records of its residents in the Basic Registration of PersonsBRP). These data must be correct. Therefore, the municipality takes this data from official documents, such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate or divorce certificate.
You can make a statement under oath or promise to the municipality if:
- your information in the BRP is incorrect or missing
and - you have no other document to prove your correct data
Difference between statement under oath and promise
You make the statement under oath if you are a believer. You then end with the words, "So truly help me God Almighty." In all other cases, you make a promise. You end with the words, "I promise."
