Statement under oath or promise

The municipality keeps records of its residents in the Basic Registration of PersonsBRP). These data must be correct. Therefore, the municipality takes this data from official documents, such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate or divorce certificate.

You can make a statement under oath or promise to the municipality if:

  • your information in the BRP is incorrect or missing
    and
  • you have no other document to prove your correct data

Difference between statement under oath and promise

You make the statement under oath if you are a believer. You then end with the words, "So truly help me God Almighty." In all other cases, you make a promise. You end with the words, "I promise."

What should I do?

  • You contact the municipality to prepare the declaration under oath or promise. To do so, call 14 0181.
  • The municipality first examines whether there is any other document that shows your data after all.
  • If there is no other document, choose whether you want to make the statement under oath or make the promise.
  • You make the statement under oath or pledge at the municipality.

What do I need to bring to the application?

  • Your valid proof of identity
  • Documents that clarify what data is involved (if you have them)
