Requesting a traffic waiver

Sometimes you need an exemption if you want to do something on (or to) the public road. For example, if you:

  • want to place a moving truck or crane on the road where the road is partially closed
  • buildings
  • organizes bicycle tours or events

You apply for a waiver for this from the road authority.

Where should I apply for a waiver?

  • for national highways: ministry of infrastructure and the environment
  • for provincial roads: Provincial States
  • for roads under the management of the water board: the water board
  • For other public roads: the municipality
  • For vehicle requirements: the RDW

What should I do?

If the roads in question are under the management of the municipality, apply for the waiver to the municipality. To do so, send an email to nl

Please provide the following information with your application:

  • place, date and time of your activity
  • reason and need for the waiver
  • photo or overview photo/drawing of the exemption area
