School housing allowance

Municipalities are responsible for housing schools in primary, secondary and special education. Vocational education, adult education and higher education are responsible for their own housing. School buildings must meet the housing requirements in the Working Conditions Decree (the Occupational Health and Safety Act) and the Building Code.

Schools can receive compensation from the municipality for housing facilities. The municipality is responsible for paying for (replacement) new construction and expansion of schools.

How does it work?

School boards in primary, secondary and (secondary) special education can submit a request for the costs of housing facilities, as mentioned in the Regulation on Housing Facilities for Education

Among amenities, you can think of:

  • (permanent or temporary) new construction and/or expansion of schools
  • (initial) furnishing with furniture
  • educational learning packages (OLP)
