Advertising placement

Do you want to place an advertising sign? For advertising signs on a building larger than a 0.5 square meter, you need a permit from the municipality. Walls on which advertising is placed fall under the term billboard. This also applies to drawings and inscriptions announcing political, cultural or sports activities, among others.

How does it work?

  • You need a permit for advertising that is visible from public roads and that you place along public roads or outdoors .
  • If the advertising or announcement is temporary, you must apply for an APV (General Municipal Regulation) permit.
  • More permanent advertising and illuminated advertising requires a (light) building permit. This means there are more requirements than when applying for an APV permit for a temporary billboard or announcement sign.
  • The municipality will review the building permit application against what is known as reasonable standards of appearance. This means that the advertising must be aesthetically pleasing to its surroundings and to the building where it is placed. Also, advertising may not take on inconvenient forms
  • You may place temporary advertising no earlier than four weeks before the activity to be held, and you must remove the advertising as soon as possible after the event.

Advertising with non-commercial purposes, such as opinion expressions and announcements, may use the free placards.

What should I do?

You must apply for a permit to place advertising at least 4 weeks prior to the time of placement. To do so, call 14 0181.
