Transporting the deceased abroad

You may transport a deceased person abroad. At customs, you must show some documents. You can request most of these documents from the municipality.

What should I do?

You request the documents from the municipality. This can only be done in the municipality where the person's death was reported. Was the death reported in Voorne aan Zee? Then call 14 0181

What do I need?

  • death certificate
  • permit for burial or burning (for transport within the Benelux)
  • laissez-passer (for transport outside Benelux)
  • proof of cause of death (doctor's or coroner's certificate or prosecutor's certificate)

Additional information

You can also transport a deceased person from abroad to the Netherlands. You will then also need a statement from the competent authority of that country. The Dutch embassy or consulate in that country can help you with this.
