Future-proof reception of asylum seekers
Under the Distribution Act, we are required to provide 392 shelter spaces for asylum seekers in our municipality. The current facility—the shelter ship—offers 150 spaces and will be available through December 31, 2026. This means we will be working toward a future-proof shelter solution in the coming period. We do not yet have any specific locations in mind for this. The municipal executive considers it important to involve residents, partners, and the city council in identifying and establishing suitable shelter locations.

We recognize the social implications of this task for our residents and the surrounding area, and we want to carry out this task in a manner that is appropriate for Voorne aan Zee. That is why we believe it is important to involve our residents, partners, and municipal council in the steps necessary to find and realize suitable locations. And in doing so, we will listen to their ideas and concerns. We will ensure that everyone can easily find information and we will show them what we are doing with their input.
Decision-making on involving residents, partners, and the city council
October 2026
The Municipal Executive submits a participation plan for the accommodation of asylum seekers to the City Council. To accommodate asylum seekers, sound decisions must be made regarding the location, size, type, and layout of accommodation facilities. The participation and communication plan, “Involvement of Residents and the City Council in the Implementation of Structural Shelter under the Distribution Act ” ( ), outlines the agreements regarding how residents, business owners, and organizations can contribute their input. This process begins even before locations are identified. The municipal executive is submitting this participation plan to the city council.
January 2026
An informal, closed-door meeting with the city council was scheduled for January 7, 2026, to discuss the participation and communication strategy aimed at developing future-proof childcare. In early January 2026, several parties indicated that they did not wish to discuss this strategy in a closed-door meeting or prior to the city council elections. The meeting on January 7 was therefore canceled. The Municipal Executive subsequently decided on January 13, 2026, to defer all decision-making regarding future-proof childcare—including the participation and communication strategy—to the new Municipal Executive and the new city council.

December 2025
On December 16, 2025, the municipal executive adopted the participation and communication approach for the future-proof reception of asylum seekers. The approach sets out how residents, partners, and the council can be involved in the search for suitable locations. The municipal executive agreed to invite the municipal council to an informal meeting on January 7, 2026, to exchange ideas on this matter. After this informal, closed meeting, the approach would be presented to the committee and municipal council for public discussion.
