Starting child care

There are several types of child care. Some examples are:

  • nursery
  • out-of-school care (BSO)
  • host parent agency
  • host parent care
  • preschool

If you want to start a child care business, you are required to do the following:

  • Apply for a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG);
  • Register your child care with the Child Care Disputes Committee.
  • Send an application form to the municipality for starting a child care center.

For more information, view the step-by-step plan for starting a child center or the step-by-step plan for starting a host parent agency.

What should I do?

Apply for VOG childcare

To start a child care business, you must have a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG). A VOG shows that your past behavior is not an objection to working with children.

Apply to Child Care Disputes Committee

You must register your childcare provider with the Childcare Disputes Committee. If you do not do this? Then you cannot register with the municipality.

Registering child care with municipality

Ask the municipality if you may start child care with one of these application forms:

Do you meet the legal requirements? Then the municipality will place your childcare organization in the National Register of Childcare and Nurseries (LRKP) and you may start.

Establishing a complaints procedure

As a child care organization, you must have a complaint procedure. This states how someone can file a complaint with your child care organization.
