Discussion JB Square
The Youth Protection Square Voorne aan Zee (JB Square) is there for children aged 0-18 years. These children have concerns about their safety and/or development. The efforts of the parents and social workers have not yet led to sufficient improvement. Care workers therefore report these children to the JB-square. Each report is discussed at the JB-square. Read more about what a discussion entails.
Why?
An employee of a social service agency is concerned about the safety of your child(ren) in your family and has discussed this with you. The assistance that has been initiated is not helping sufficiently. Therefore, an employee of this assistance agency has made a request to the JB Square. This staff member believes it is necessary for the Child Protection Board to investigate the well-being of your child(ren) and your home situation.
What is happening?
Led by the chairman from the municipality, the report is discussed with you and everyone present. During this discussion, you will be asked questions. That is why it is important that you are present. Your opinion is important to us. Together with you we will discuss what agreements we can make with you and the care workers so that your children can grow up in a safe environment. The meeting lasts 45 minutes with a maximum of one hour.
Who are in attendance?
- You and your (former) partner, your son/daughter from the age of 16;
- the employee who made the request;
- the president of JB Square;
- the secretary of the JB Square;
- a youth counselor from the municipality of Voorne aan Zee;
- an employee of the Child Protection Council;
- an employee of Youth Protection;
- an employee of Safe House.
What does the chairman do?
The chairman of the council is independent. This means that the chairperson is above the parties. He/she listens to everyone's opinion and, at the end of the consultation, communicates which follow-up approach is in the best interest of the child. The chairperson also speaks to children ages 12 to 16. From the age of 16 your son/daughter may be present at the discussion. You may bring one confidant, such as a close friend or family member. You must notify nl before the meeting nl
What will be decided?
We make a decision about the follow-up approach. At the JB Square, a decision is made whether the Child Protection Council will initiate an investigation. The outcome of the investigation may be that the Child Protection Council deems a child protection measure necessary. The children's court decides on this.
We also make arrangements for the continuation of assistance with possible additional intensive arrangements. It is also possible that an investigation is done by Safe Home. This happens if there are suspicions of abuse. In this way it becomes clear whether your child is safe and his/her development is not at risk. You will receive a letter at home with a report of this conversation.

Information sheet for youth ages 12 to 18
Home is important to everyone, including you. You should be able to grow up there properly and safely. When this doesn't happen naturally, a social worker can try to help you and your parent(s). If, with this help, you do not succeed in ensuring that you can grow up well and safely, the social worker can discuss his/her concerns about you at the JB Square.
Why a discussion at the youth protection court?
The JB Square is a consultation where a fixed core of employees from the municipality, Safe Home, Youth Protection and the Child Protection Council discuss concerns about you and your family with each other. A look is taken at what needs to be done and whether an assistance/safety plan needs to be made. They also discuss who can best do that with you and your parent(s) and who else can help with that. A chairperson helps staff make an independent decision that is in the best interest of your safety and development.
How can you tell what you think?
In order to ensure that everyone at the JB Square can think along properly, the social worker fills out a report form in advance. On that report form, the social worker writes down what concerns he/she has about you and why his/her help is unable to ensure that you can grow up well and safely.
The social worker discusses this with you and also with your parent(s). The social worker writes on the form what you and your parent(s) think about it.
What exactly happens during the discussion? With the chairman of the JB-square you can discuss what is going well. But also what the concerns are and what needs to be improved at home. Your opinion is important. After all, it is about your life. The meeting takes about half an hour. If you like, you can bring someone along to the meeting.
What is decided at the youth protection court?
Every week there is a JB Square. As soon as possible after the JB Square, the social worker tells you and your parent(s) what was decided. This may include:
- Investigation by Child Protection Council
In the JB Square, it is decided whether the Child Protection Council will conduct an investigation. The outcome of the investigation may be that the Child Protection Council deems a child protection measure necessary. The children's court decides on this. - Additional agreements about assistance
We also make additional arrangements with your parents about assistance for your family. - Investigation by Safe Home
If there are suspicions of abuse, Safe Home conducts an investigation.
