Haringvliet Estuary
Future perspective Haringvliet estuary 2060
A broad coalition of parties has set a goal in the “Haringvliet Estuary 2060 Vision” to work toward in the coming years. The vision outlines many opportunities for nature, recreation, and the economy that will arise from the development of the Haringvliet Estuary. The Haringvliet Estuary will be given the space to develop naturally. This will have a positive impact on nature and water safety and will also offer new opportunities for recreation. Therefore, hindering this natural development is not an option.
The future outlook highlights opportunities to make the Haringvliet estuary even more attractive, based on the coast’s natural morphological development. However, it is difficult to predict the exact course of coastal development. The future outlook is therefore not a blueprint; the direction is not set in stone. The proposed developments are possibilities that will be further elaborated upon in the subsequent process.
Haringvliet Estuary Implementation Program
By adopting the Haringvliet Estuary Implementation Program, the municipality of Voorne aan Zee has taken the first step toward capitalizing on these opportunities. This initiative makes use of the budgets available through the “Netten op Zee” Regional Investment Program, which can provide a financial boost to the quality of life in the area. In practical terms, this means that the program will serve as a catalyst for the further development of the sub-areas. This involves the following components:
- Feasibility Study for the N57 Dune Viaduct
- Viewpoints
- Calisthenics Park Beach
- Improving and Enhancing Access to the North Sea Beach from Quackstrand (Design and Construction)
- Providing Information on Beaches (Feasibility and Possible Implementation)
- Facilities for people with disabilities on beaches
- Other measures resulting from the short-term coastal project or aimed at enhancing the experience of nature
- Improving the connection from downtown Rockanje to the beach, known as the Strandboulevard.
The final products of the vision development can be found on the Voorne aan Zee council information system website. Select from the calendar February 5 Meeting of council: Sanding Haringvliet estuary.
