What does the city council do?

The municipal council, also called the council for short, is elected directly by the residents of the municipality. This happens every four years in the municipal elections. The next council elections will take place in March 2026.

In addition to its role of representing the people, the municipal council determines the frameworks, the main lines of the municipality's policies, such as the budget, policy plans, regulations and zoning plans, and monitors the implementation of policies. The College of Mayor and Aldermen is responsible for policy implementation and they make the day-to-day decisions about the "ins and outs" of the municipality.

Together with the College of Mayors and Aldermen (also called College of B&W), the City Council forms the administration of the municipality. The mayor presides over both the college of B&W and the municipal council.

Commissioners

In addition to council members, there are also committee members who support the council groups. Committee members participate in the three different council committees: the Society Committee, the Space Committee and the General Affairs & Resources Committee.
