Municipality Submits Revised Meeuwenoord Development Plan for Brielle to the City Council
The municipality of Voorne aan Zee is taking the next step in the development of Meeuwenoord in Brielle. Earlier this year, the Planning Committee discussed the initial direction for the area’s development.
The wishes and suggestions that emerged during this process were carefully considered and incorporated into a revised vision statement.
The municipal executive is now presenting this new proposal to the city council. The council will make a decision on this matter at its public meeting on November 12. The vision document outlines the key decisions for the further development of the area.
The municipality plans to expand the Meeuwenoord neighborhood with a new residential area. The vision document stipulates that traffic access must first be significantly improved before homes can be built.
The municipality is also having additional safety studies conducted. This is necessary due to Meeuwenoord’s location and the presence of businesses and other safety risks in the surrounding area. In addition, more studies will be conducted in the near future, for example in the areas of the environment, nature, water, archaeology, and noise.
The Meeuwenoord development will take place in two phases. The municipality will start with the area where sports fields used to be located. At the same time, the municipality is in discussions with the province regarding a possible expansion to the original plan of 400 homes; currently, the province has approved 200 homes.

Alderman Igor Bal (Spatial Development): “Following the discussion earlier this year, we listened carefully to the wishes and suggestions of the Spatial Planning Committee. We have incorporated them into this revised vision document. The result is a carefully crafted and refined proposal that emphasizes good accessibility and safety. This will allow us to take the next step in the development of Meeuwenoord.”
Once the vision document has been finalized, the municipality can proceed with selecting a developer.
