Energy transition - Regional Energy Strategy
On June 28, 2019, the Cabinet published the Climate Agreement. This is the Dutch elaboration of the international Paris climate agreements made in 2015. On this webpage you will find more information about it.
Regional Energy Strategy (RES).
The four municipalities on Voorne-Putten together with nineteen other municipalities, four water boards and the province of South Holland form the Energy Region Rotterdam-Den Haag. Together they are creating an approach to accelerate energy transition over the next 10 years. Energy transition is the switch from fossil fuels, such as natural gas and coal, to sustainable, clean energy sources such as solar and wind. This approach is called the Regional Energy Strategy, or RES for short. At the same time as the Rotterdam-The Hague Energy Region, 29 other regions in the Netherlands are also making an RES. With the 30 RESs, we will collectively reduce CO2 emissions in the Netherlands by 49% by 2030. This was agreed in the Climate Accord.
The municipalities on Voorne - Putten take their responsibility in the implementation of the Climate Agreement. We want to become an energy-neutral island in the future. This means, among other things, that we on Voorne-Putten will generate the electricity we need ourselves. Generating sustainable electricity is inevitable if we want to pass Voorne-Putten on to our children and grandchildren in a responsible manner. The question is therefore not whether we will do this, but how we will do it.
