Sustainable events
Events bring vibrancy to our municipality and connect residents, business owners, tourists and recreationists. But events also have an impact on our living environment and the environment. To minimize this impact, we are taking steps in the area of sustainability. As a municipality, we like to work together with event organizers to gather ideas to make the events sector in Voorne aan Zee more sustainable. Together we work towards a clean and safe Voorne aan Zee and contribute to a greener future.

There are many ways to organize events with an eye for climate and sustainability. Here are some practical tips for making your event more sustainable.
Waste
- Health for sufficient trash receptacles.
- Health that you empty and clean the trash cans regularly.
- Employ a litter team to clean up litter on the grounds and separate waste.
- Make separating waste as easy as possible.
- Keeping clean is staying clean. Health that litter is removed immediately. A clean event without litter contributes not only to visitor awareness for a sustainable event but also to the overall safety of an event.
Communications
- Include sustainability as a theme in the script and describe the actions deployed to reduce the environmental impact of your event.
- Communicate the event's sustainability goals to visitors, your suppliers and other partners.
- Position sustainability on the event website to draw attention to the measures taken.
- Share knowledge and experiences with other organizers. For example, through the event sounding board group that meets once a quarter to share knowledge among themselves.
Materials
- Use no or less plastic materials. Fortunately, there are many compostable or recyclable alternatives these days, such as bamboo and cardboard. Ask your supplier about them.
- Explore options for reusable drinking cups, such as hard cups or high-quality recycling of single-use soft cups (in accordance with SUP legislation). Note: Single-use beverage and food packaging will no longer be allowed as of Jan. 1, 2024.
Food & Drink
- Health in your catering offerings for choice of vegetarian dishes. Communicate this at the event site as well. Buy local produce of the season.
- The better dishes match the guests' wishes, the less waste. Inventory dietary requirements in advance.
- Serve dishes by size. Offer them in medium or large portions. That way, less food is wasted.
Water
- Clean drinking water is becoming increasingly scarce, be aware of your event's water consumption. Discuss savings and/or reuse options with the municipality and vendors.
- Use water taps instead of water in plastic bottles and/or Health for a filling facility.
Travel & Transportation
- Map what modes of transportation visitors use and Health for encouraging sustainable transportation. Where possible, ask visitors to come by bike or on foot.
Nature
- Protect the natural environment of Voorne aan Zee. Prevent fuel leaks and use cleaning agents that are not harmful to the environment.
Energy
- Inventory energy needs. Use fixed power points as much as possible. Light efficiently with LED.
Sound
- Keep noise within limits.
Evaluate
- Evaluate annually the recorded data of energy and water consumption, waste disposal and recycling to determine sustainability progress.
