Digital security

We keep Voorne aan Zee as safe as possible. This includes the digital safety of residents. Digital crime, or cybercrime, is on the rise. Cybercrime refers to crimes committed online, such as Internet scams, extortion via e-mail and phishing.

Whereas in the past we only had to worry about our own security and that of our surroundings, nowadays we also call attention to the digital security of the residents of our municipality. Unfortunately, digital security cannot be guaranteed, but you can arm yourself against digital crime. The Municipality of Voorne aan Zee is committed to making residents and businesses resilient against cybercrime. Because this is how we keep Voorne aan Zee digitally safe as well.

Check first, then click!

The best way to minimize cybercrime is to be alert. Check first, then click! By first checking a link, attachment or payment request for reliability, you avoid becoming a victim.

  • Check the link by hovering over it with your mouse (do not click). Look carefully if you see any strange things in the link.
  • Check the sender's e-mail address (beware, sometimes cybercriminals use an e-mail address that looks very similar to a trusted mail address).
  • Do you receive an unexpected payment request from someone you know? Call on this person at the number you know and ask if it's true.
  • Do you receive a payment request from a company? Call the company to ask if it is correct.

If you are in doubt about a link, you can check it on the website Checkjelinkje. You can find more tips to avoid becoming a victim of cybercrime on the Safe Internet Sites , Don't make it too easy for them.

What else can you do to stay digitally secure?

  • Health that your computer (and possibly company network) is properly secured.
  • Use of a virus scanner, firewall, anti-spyware, safe website and ad blockers (software that blocks ads that may contain a virus).
  • Double secure is double secure: Health that you log into your accounts in 2 steps.
  • Use a good password (at least 8 characters, with uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and punctuation).
  • Back up your data regularly.
  • Never give your login information to others.
  • Always perform updates to your software.
  • Protect your online privacy.
  • Always be critical when giving personal information.
  • Use a VPN connection on public Wi-Fi networks
