Tree felling

Before cutting down a tree, you should check to see if there are any nests or habitats of protected animals in the tree. These may include nests of birds, squirrels, bats, or martens.

Nests of common birds are protected only when they are in use, such as during the breeding season. Nests of owls and birds of prey are often protected year-round. You may not simply remove them.

Please submit the following documents:

• A site plan
• Color photographs of the current situation
• A justification for the felling, including the reason(s) for the felling
• Information about the tree, such as species and size

You pay a fee to apply for an environmental permit. You must pay this fee (or a portion of it) even if your application is denied or withdrawn.

Neighbors, neighbors and other interested parties can object to your plans. This can be done within six weeks of the day the permit is issued.
