Asbestos removal

If a demolition notification is sufficient, you may remove the asbestos yourself and transport it to an asbestos processing company. However, the removal of asbestos must conform to a number of Requirements .

Packing Asbestos

You pack asbestos in special asbestos bags. You seal these with matching tape. Get the bags and tape from the Environmental park. You will get the bags and tape if you can show proof of receipt of the demolition notice. However, this is not possible on Saturdays.

Do you have any packaging material left over? If so, put this in the asbestos bags as well. This also applies to used protective equipment. This will prevent asbestos particles from becoming airborne.

Where can I turn in asbestos?

You can hand in the asbestos at the Environmental park. You can hand in small quantities (up to 22 kilo) during opening hours.
For larger quantities (up to 35 m² and for which you do a demolition notification) you can hand in asbestos only if you can show the proof of receipt from the DCMR.

If you are bringing larger quantities of asbestos to the Environmental park, you must make a Make an appointment appointment to do so. Call 14 0181 to do so. At the Environmental park in Brielle, you can hand in asbestos only on Saturdays in the even weeks. 

When turning in asbestos, please note the following procedure:

• You take the receipt with you when you turn in the asbestos to the Environmental park.
• You offer the asbestos in double-wrapped and sealed asbestos bags.
• The maximum weight per package is 22 kg.
• You offer the dense asbestos bags to an Environmental park employee.
• The employee checks that you have packed the asbestos properly. The employee does not grab the asbestos.
• Once you have properly packed the asbestos, the employee will tell you how to place the asbestos in the container.
• If you packaged the asbestos incorrectly, the Environmental park will reject the material.

Demolition permit

All other cases of asbestos removal require a demolition permit. In this case, you may no longer remove the asbestos yourself but must have the asbestos removed by a competent company.

If you are going to remove asbestos, you must file a demolition notification.

• You submit the notification online through the Omgevingsloket online. Please use your DigiD.
• Companies make the notification with eRecognition.

Make the notification at least 4 weeks before you are going to remove the asbestos. In the following cases, do so no later than 5 working days in advance:

• As an individual, you remove bolted boards in which the asbestos fibers are bonded (not roof slates). It must be asbestos from homes or outbuildings on your property that are not intended or used for your profession or business. You may remove a maximum of 35 m² per plot.
• As an individual, you remove floor tiles or unglued floor covering containing asbestos. It must be asbestos from homes or outbuildings on your property that are not intended or used for your profession or business. You may remove a maximum of 35 m² per plot.

After the demolition notification

The municipality will send you an acknowledgement of receipt of the demolition notification. If your notification is not complete, you will be notified and must submit a new notification. If your notification is complete, the municipality may set Requirements the demolition work. You must comply with these Requirements .

Report start and end of work

• You notify the municipality at least 2 business days in advance that you will begin removing asbestos.
• If you have finished the work, report it on the first working day after you have finished the work.

Information accompanying the notification

• name and address owner of the building containing asbestos
• name and address performer of work
• address, cadastral number and type of building
• the dates and times you will demolish
• how you are going to demolish
• details of the waste and how you will dispose of it
• A scale site drawing of the plot showing the structures to be demolished

Asbestos Inventory Report

You must include an asbestos inventory report if you:

• removes more than 35 m² of asbestos-containing material;
• removes asbestos from a building built before 1994.

This report must be prepared by a certified asbestos inventory company.

Price changes and typographical errors reserved.

You can start removing asbestos 4 weeks after your notification. If you filed a notification for work that you were required to notify no later than 5 business days in advance, you can begin demolition after 5 business days.

If you have been notified that your notification is incomplete, you may not start yet. You must first make a new notification. The deadline will then begin again.

If you are not sure if a particular material contains asbestos, check the asbestos road map to get an idea of what materials may contain asbestos. Only a certified company may examine whether asbestos is present. At www.ascert.nl you can search to see if a company is certified as an asbestos removal company.
