Alderman Aart Jan Spoon visits VOF Klapwijk in Rockanje

On Thursday, February 19th, Alderman economy Aart Jan Spoon of Voorne aan Zee paid a visit to the agricultural company VOF Klapwijk in Rockanje.
VOF Klapwijk is an agricultural company that grows various crops all year round and sells them regionally. Father and son Klapwijk led the Alderman around their company. The harvest of the last sprouts of this season is in full swing. Aart Jan Spoon was given an explanation of the various machines that ensure harvesting, selecting and sorting.
Sustainable and environmentally friendly company
Klapwijk has invested a lot in machines in recent years, but especially in sustainability and the environment. That makes this company one of the leaders on our island. Klapwijk: “Although the laws and regulations are becoming increasingly complicated and there are more and more restrictions on the use of crop protection products, we still want to work and grow sustainably, environmentally friendly and responsibly. We find that very important, but it is not getting any easier and requires us to be constantly aware of the latest developments.”
Attention to the rural environment
Klapwijk sees a number of bottlenecks in the area, such as narrow roads and poorly maintained verges. But the game damage, the damage that occurs when animals eat the plants, is also great. This causes a considerable annual expense. Aart Jan Spoon recognizes the signals from Klapwijk and complimented him on his company: “I am quite familiar with the ins and outs of such a company, but during this visit I was introduced to things that were new to me, especially in the field of sprout cultivation. This grower takes a lot of initiatives and not only pays attention to the continuous improvement of his company but also the rural environment.”
