What support can you get from the municipality?

An illness or disability sometimes makes it difficult to find a job. For example, because it makes it harder for you to work. Or because you need extra support. The municipality wants to make it more attractive for employers to hire someone with a disability. Thus, an employer can apply for a subsidy from the municipality, the so-called wage subsidy.

When can your employer apply for a wage subsidy?

An employer can receive a wage subsidy for employees who are on the target group register.
The target group register is a national UWV list of people with labor disabilities. Employers can apply for subsidies, aids or extra support for these people.

On Werk.nl you can indicate that you are in the target group register. If you are looking for work, this will give you a better chance of getting a job.

Do you want employers to be able to see that you are on the target group register?

  • Log in there with your DigiD;
  • Go to "my resume.
  • Check the "job match" option. Don't want this? Then you don't have to do anything.

Applying for wage subsidy

Step 1 - Get to work

When you start working somewhere, you usually start with a trial period. This allows the employer to see if the work suits you

Step 2 - Grant application

Would your employer like you to stay and get you a contract? Then the employer can apply for a wage subsidy from the municipality. For this application, the employer provides information about you to the municipality.

Step 3 - Research

Someone comes in to examine how well you can do your job. This examiner determines your "wage value. Your wage value is another word for how fast you work and how you work.

Additional support and assistance from the municipality

What options are available?

If you are on the target group register, your employer can apply for a wage subsidy for you. In addition, you and your employer can request other forms of support from the municipality. For example, adjustments or extra help in your workplace. Below you can read what is possible.

  1. Work support: does your workplace need to be modified? Then your employer can apply for compensation. For example, for the cost of an adapted office chair, special shoes or a Braille display.
  2. Help from a job coach: a job coach can help you in your workplace. For example, during settling in. Or when getting used to your new colleagues and activities.
  3. Allowances employer: your employer can apply for a number of allowances when hiring someone on the target group register:
  • The employer can apply for additional insurance. With this no-risk policy, your employer gets compensation for the hours you are sick;
  • Employers can get money annually for low-wage workers. This is the low-income benefit;
  • Employers can get money every year if they hire workers who are struggling to find work. This is the labor cost benefit.
