Week against child abuse: teaching program bruising

Last week was the Week Against Child Abuse. An annual theme to bring attention to child abuse, so that signs are better recognized and children can be helped more quickly.

Extra attention has also been given to this within the Municipality of Voorne aan Zee .

From the municipality exists the Local Implementation Plan whose goal is to create a safe environment for all residents of the Municipality of Voorne aan Zee by effectively identifying, addressing and possibly preventing domestic violence and child abuse. This plan is based on the regional vision on domestic violence and child abuse. In this we work closely with education.

To make the subject of child abuse discussable at school, the teaching program 'Blue Spots' has been purchased. The teaching program is based on the book 'Blauwe Plekken' by Anke de Vries. The story is about a girl who is beaten at home and keeps it a secret.

In a 25-minute performance, actors bring the story to the classroom. They then engage in a conversation with students, teachers and care coordinators. One of the schools that has taken advantage of this offer is St. Leonardus Elementary School in Brielle. The school has indicated that it would like to use this teaching program during the Week Against Child Abuse to draw additional attention to the topic.

Alderman van der Kooi attended the start of the first performance on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
