Elections, voting for voters with disabilities
Voting for voters with disabilities
All eligible voters must be able to exercise their right to vote. All polling stations in Voorne aan Zee are therefore accessible to people with disabilities.
What is provided for people with disabilities?
In the polling place you will find, among other things, a candidate list in large print and a magnifying glass with lights. For people in wheelchairs, there is at least one voting booth with a lowered writing surface.
A poll worker may explain to you how to use the ballot paper. Do you need help voting because of your physical disability? Then someone may accompany you into the voting booth to help you.
More information for voters with disabilities can be found on the Rijksoverheid website.
Help for voters with physical disabilities
Are you unable to vote yourself due to a physical disability? Then you may get help in the voting booth. For example, if you are visually impaired, blind or have Parkinson's disease. You can bring someone along to help, or ask a polling station member for help.
Voting with a visual impairment
An enlarged list of candidates hangs in all polling stations. In addition, at least one magnifying glass must be present, which enlarges the text on the ballot paper. There must also be good lighting in the voting booth.
I have a mentor, administrator or am under guardianship. Can I still vote myself?
The right to vote is a personal right that is only for the voter. Therefore, you may vote yourself, even if someone else is your legal representative. It is up to you to decide whether to authorize someone if you cannot or do not want to come to the polling station yourself.
I have a (mild) intellectual disability. How can I vote?
You can receive explanations from a polling station member outside the voting booth. Assistance in the voting booth is not permitted. You can find explanations and practice on the website nl.
General power of attorney for someone with intellectual disability
Do you have a general power of attorney to act for someone with an intellectual disability? This power of attorney does not apply to elections, so the polling station will not accept it.
However, the voter with a mental disability can authorize you to vote for him or her through the voting card or through an authorization form. The person who cannot vote must ask you for this on his or her own accord. That person must sign the proxy himself or herself.
