The remains are exceptionally well preserved in the wet peat soil. Foundation piles, layers of manure and pottery shards, slaughtered livestock (bones), and grains indicate a farm where humans and animals lived under one roof. Similar farms have been excavated in the immediate vicinity in the past. The current excavation may yield valuable new information about the life of this farming community within the peat landscape during the Iron Age.

The archaeological excavation took place prior to the construction of 24 new homes on Dwarsweg. These homes are being built on the site vacated by the old buildings of De Merel, the library, and the school.
