Tile rocking

Tile cab drives through Voorne aan Zee

Tiles out, greenery in. From March 21 to October 31, 2025, everyone can once again replace tiles with grass, flowers or a vegetable garden during the NK Tegelwippen. To give residents of Voorne aan Zee a helping hand, a Tile Taxi will be driving around in May and June to pick up your tossed tiles. This initiative is a trial in which the municipality is looking at how it can help residents make their gardens greener. More greenery means less flooding during downpours, cooler cities in hot summers and a healthier living environment.

What is a tile cab?

This year, for the first time, there is a free tile cab driving around Voorne aan Zee to collect chipped tiles from residents' homes. The tile cab will drive around parts of the municipality on a number of Mondays in May and June. There are 15 spots per Monday to reserve for the tile cab, so full is full.

If you cannot use the tile cab, you can also dispose of your wiped tiles yourself at the municipal yard for a fee and pass them on via the website nk-tegelwippen.nl.

When does the tile cab run?

PLEASE NOTE: The Tile Taxi is completely full. No more bookings can be made.

The Tile Taxi runs on Mondays to pick up tiles:

  • On Monday, May 26, 2025 in Brielle, Vierpolders and Zwartewaal. FULL
  • On Monday, June 2 in Hellevoetsluis, Oudenhoorn and Nieuwenhoorn. VOL
  • On Monday, June 16 in Rockanje, Oostvoorne and Tinte. FULL

What are the Requirements for signing up

  • The Tile Taxi has 15 spots per day, so be on time.
  • You can submit up to 2 cubic yards of tile and/or clinker per application. 2 cubic yards equals 16 grocery bags.
  • Please indicate the exact pick-up location in the application form. Please note that this must be on the street and not in your yard.
  • You do not need to be home on the day of pickup.
  • Lay the tiles at the specified location no more than 24 hours in advance (to minimize inconvenience and risk) and no later than 7:30 a.m. on the day itself.
  • Only tiles and clinkers will be taken. Other materials will be refused.

Requirements for where you lay the tiles

Choose a spot that is freely accessible to a truck with a peg. Are you not offering the tiles properly? Then the tiles cannot be taken. So read carefully what you need to consider:

  • Choose a public place that is easily accessible to a truck with a squeeze. For example, choose the sidewalk in front of your house, the regular spot for your trash can, or another open area. Never place the stones on your own property, such as directly in front of your front door. The truck must have good access to them.
  • Health for space. Health that there are no parked cars, trees, bushes, fences or lampposts in the way. The truck needs space to pick up the stones. Also, do not place the stones in narrow streets that the truck cannot reach.
  • Health for space above the tiles. Do not place the tiles under a tree, canopy or anything else. The tiles are picked up from above.
  • Do not place the bricks directly against walls or fences. Health that there is space around the pile so that the peg can easily grab the stones.
  • Stack the bricks neatly. Do not make the pile too high so that it can be picked up safely and easily.
  • Do not place the stones too far from the road. Keep in mind that the truck with the crane cannot reach everything. Therefore, the tiles should be about and maximum 5 meters from the street.
  • When doing this, of course, always keep in mind through paths, people should still be able to pass by.

Why do we think Tile Twisting is important in Voorne aan Zee?

Tile chipping means removing tiles from gardens or sidewalks and putting plants, grass or shrubs in their place. This makes the area greener, helps more plants and animals and allows water to drain better. As a result, you have less trouble with too much water and it gets less hot in the city.

Tile turning is very important and necessary! Especially in cities.

Biodiversity: More plants and flowers create more life. Removing tiles and planting greenery brings more insects, birds and other animals. This creates more biodiversity in the city.

Water management: Greenery helps with water management. Plants and grass absorb rainwater better than tiles. This prevents flooding and maintains groundwater levels.

Climate change: Greenery also helps with the climate. Plants and trees provide shade and coolness. This helps make it less hot on hot days.

Air quality: Plants make the air cleaner. They absorb CO2 and release oxygen. They also filter particulates and other pollutants from the air.

Livability and health: Green is good for health. People feel better and healthier in a green environment. There is room to relax and exercise, which is good for mental health.

Beautiful environment: Green looks beautiful. It makes neighborhoods more beautiful and increases the value of homes.

In short, tile rocking makes for a more sustainable and nicer place to live.
