Roundabout at Evertsenplein to become safer for traffic

From Monday, February 2, through Friday, April 3, the municipality Voorne aan Zee will be improving Voorne aan Zee bicycle and pedestrian crossings at the Rijksstraatweg/Amnesty Internationallaan roundabout in Hellevoetsluis.

In April 2024, the bicycle crossing on the north side was moved further away from the roundabout. This has improved visibility for road users. From February 2026, the other three bicycle crossings will also be moved further away from the roundabout.

Busy roundabout

The Amnesty Internationallaan/Rijksstraatweg roundabout is an important roundabout for Hellevoetsluis. There have been concerns about the traffic safety of this roundabout—which is used by cars, buses, cyclists, and pedestrians—for some time.

Planning and phasing

The work will be carried out by contractor Van Gelder and includes paving work for relocating the central reservations, cycle paths, and footpaths. We will also be replacing the top layer of asphalt on the roundabout and installing illuminated pedestrian signs above the crossings.

The work will be carried out in three phases, during which traffic will largely continue to flow. Only during the final phase of the work will the roundabout be closed at night on working days. A diversion route will be in place during the closures. This will be indicated by signs. Traffic controllers will also be present to provide directions.
