Court of Auditors

The Audit Office reviews the results, the costs, and whether the municipality complies with laws and regulations. In doing so, the Audit Office supports the municipal council in overseeing the municipal administration.
Purpose and Methodology
The Voorne aan Zee Audit Office Voorne aan Zee independent investigations into the effectiveness, efficiency, and legality of municipal policy. In doing so, the Audit Office examines, among other things, the following questions:
- Are the municipality's goals being achieved?
- How much will the plans and work cost?
- Does the municipality operate in accordance with the rules and laws?
Through its audits, the Audit Office strengthens the role of the city council. To this end, the Audit Office holds up a mirror to the city administration (the council and the executive board) to keep it on its toes. The Audit Office also makes recommendations on where opportunities exist to improve administrative decision-making, policy, and implementation, and to raise them to a higher standard of quality.
Composition
Voorne aan Zee an audit office that operates under a single-director model. This means that a single director carries out the audit office’s statutory duties. In 2024, the city council appointed Peter Struik as director of the Voorne aan Zee Audit Office. Igno Pröpper was appointed as deputy director. The Audit Office is supported by an advisory committee. This committee consists of six council and committee members appointed by the city council.
The advisory committee has the following responsibilities:
- Recommending candidates for membership and alternates.
- Advising the Court of Auditors on which topics to select for investigation.
- Advisors to the Court of Auditors on its approach to audits and audit reports.
- Maintaining the Board's contacts with the Court of Auditors.

Research Program and Annual Reports
Each year, the Court of Audit prepares a report on its activities during the previous year. The audit program is also updated regularly. This makes it clear which audits have been completed, which are currently underway, and which topics are on the agenda. The current research program and annual reports can be found below.
The Court of Audit is currently investigating the accessibility and affordability of housing for young people. This study will be completed in 2026.
