Council meeting in a nutshell - June 5, 2025

On June 5, the City Council met on important issues that affect you. Below is a brief overview of the topics discussed and decisions made.

New social housing rules

As of 2025, new rules will apply to the distribution of social housing in the Rotterdam-Rijnmond region. These rules should ensure fair allocation, with special attention to local housing seekers, seniors and vital professions such as caregivers, police and firefighters. There was mutual discussion about the housing allocation system and to what extent adjustments are needed.

Mobility Vision 2040

The City Council has adopted the Mobility Vision 2040. This plan focuses on sustainable and efficient transportation in the future. An implementation plan will be presented at a later date.

North Sea Boulevard wind project

The City Council discussed the construction of two wind turbines for green power. Residents can participate financially through a cooperative. Construction can start if there are no objections.

With the adopted amendment "Requirements wind task Voorne aan Zee" it was proposed to limit the construction of two wind turbines to an installed capacity of 11.6 MW and a tip height of 225 meters. This prevents additional nuisance and is in line with an earlier decision of the Municipality of Westvoorne. There is room to increase the capacity to 15 MW in the future, but only if other wind projects in the municipality definitively do not go ahead.

In addition, a motion was also passed requesting the municipality to enter into discussions with the province of South Holland to scrap the wind site near the Brielse Brug. The motion calls for the 27 MW wind task for Voorne aan Zee to be divided among other locations. The motion was passed.

Strong local economy 2025 - 2035

The economic policy plan for the next ten years has been adopted. This plan focuses on promoting sustainable tourism, supporting local businesses and improving the labor market. This policy was developed in cooperation with residents and business owners.

Motion 'Everyone counts in Voorne aan Zee'

The City Council is asking the college to explore the creation of an accessibility committee. This committee could help make public spaces, buildings and information more accessible to people with disabilities, such as those who use wheelchairs and mobility scooters. The motion passed unanimously.

Motion 'Attention to suicide prevention in Voorne aan Zee'

The City Council passed a motion to give more attention to suicide prevention, especially among young people. The goal is to raise awareness and better organize help.

Motion 'Every club counts, one line in sports hall rental rates'

This motion proposed making the rent of sports halls fairer and more affordable. Now associations using a sports hall pay too much due to an unfair calculation. The proposal is to calculate the rent from now on per hall section and equalize the rates. This way sports will remain accessible for everyone. The motion was passed.
