Council meeting in a nutshell - January 29, 2026
On Thursday, January 29, the city council met to discuss topics that are important to you. Below is a brief overview of the topics discussed and decisions made.

Advice on preliminary investigation of integrity report
At Alderman request, the report on the preliminary investigation into the integrity report was added to the agenda. In the ensuing debate, various political parties expressed their concerns about the leaking of confidential information and the filing of an integrity report that, in any case, gave the impression that it was done for political reasons. As a result of this debate, a motion of no confidence was tabled and adopted by the council against aldermen D. van Orselen and R. van der Kooi. This motion was not directed against the aldermen themselves, but confidence in the parties of these aldermen had been damaged, which is why this motion was tabled. By adopting this motion, the council wanted to restore confidence in public administration. The Municipal Executive now consists of Peter Schop and Els Priester (EVV) and Aart Jan Spoon and Igor Bal (VVD).
Due to this topic, the meeting did not proceed as planned. The items for immediate adoption and the agenda item concerning the regional archive were discussed. The remaining agenda items and motions will be carried over to the next council meeting.
New Regional Archives in Hellevoetsluis: better and future-proof
The municipality is building a new Regional Archive at Kickersbloem 3 in Hellevoetsluis. The current archive is too small and no longer complies with regulations. The new building will offer more space and better facilities. This will enable us to store archives securely and make it easier for residents and researchers to request information. The move will free up the old location, where around 175 new homes can be built in the future.
Sports facilities in Zwartewaal
A speaker shares concerns about sports facilities in Zwartewaal. The prepared motion was not discussed. The mayor has promised to get in touch as soon as possible.
In addition, the following decisions were made:
- Appointment and resignation, at their own request, of committee members. Mr. Valk resigned at his own request for the Forum for Democracy political party. Messrs. Van Kaam, Van Dort, and Peperkamp were appointed as committee members for the ONS Voorne political party with effect from January 1, 2026.
- Policy document on sheltered housing on the islands of South Holland 2026-2036.
- Adoption of the TAM Environmental Plan for Oostdijk Hellevoetsluis.
