A link between the past, freedom, and the present in Voorne aan Zee 

On Wednesday, April 1, the new municipal council of Voorne aan Zee was Voorne aan Zee at St. Catherine’s Church in Brielle. This date coincides with the capture of Den Briel in 1572, a significant moment in our history that symbolizes freedom and self-governance. Every year, Brielle commemorates this event with its famous open-air play. This year, the day concluded with the installation of the new municipal council. This marks Voorne aan Zee a new term of office for Voorne aan Zee .
 

The mayor and the new council members entered the church accompanied by drummers from the April Fools’ Day Association and members of the municipal executive. Dressed in his traditional April Fools’ Day costume, Mayor Arno Scheepers administered the oath or pledge to the 35 council members in a lighthearted manner. The special council meeting took place in the historic St. Catherine’s Church, in the heart of historic Brielle. In this way, the rich past was linked to the present and future of our municipality.

The new municipal council of Voorne aan Zee of: six VVD members, five from Inwonersbelang Voorne, four from Forum voor Democratie, four from Partij Voorne aan Zee, four from GroenLinks/PvdA (known as Progressief Voorne aan Zee in the new council term), three from Belang van Nederland (BVNL), three from the CDA, two from Echt voor Voorne, two from D66, one from Partij met Lef!, and one from Ons Voorne.
