Maerlant students debate in council chamber
On Nov. 19, 50 vwo students (5th graders) from the Maerlant participated in a political debate in our council chamber.
They discussed topical issues for them, such as mobility and housing shortage, and experienced what it is like to voice their opinions in a real political environment. Mayor Scheepers and council members guided the sessions. Another 100 havo students will follow next week.
Students receive a certificate for their debating skills and as a token of appreciation. This is how we encourage youth involvement in local democracy.
