Residents contribute ideas on cuts Voorne aan Zee
Gemeente Voorne aan Zee has asked its residents to make their voices heard about the cuts that are coming in 2026. Municipalities will receive significantly less money from the rijksoverheid starting in 2026. As many as 1735 residents completed the questionnaire and gave their opinions on where the municipality can make savings and where not. The results of this survey will help the Municipal Executive make choices for the 2026 budget.

Alderman Finance, Robert van der Kooi, responds, "I am very pleased with the large number of residents who took the trouble to fill out our questionnaire. This indicates their commitment to the ins and outs of our municipality, even in more difficult times. The suggestions that were made we take to heart and help us to make sharp and necessary choices for the future of Voorne aan Zee.
Key priorities
The results of the survey show that participants believe it is important that money remain available for safety, health care and education. According to them, these are the basic needs of the municipality. The themes of "safe living environment" andHealth and welfare" are seen as very important, while "facilities" and "leisure" are given lower priority.
Opportunities for savings
Participants also indicated where they felt the municipality could make cuts. Reception of newcomers and art and culture were mentioned most often. In addition, the fillers see sustainability, entrepreneurship, recreation and tourism as less important for the livability of the municipality.
Interestingly, participants would rather see a reduction in municipal service than higher costs. Although opinions are divided, almost half think that the municipality should be allowed to lower its service level to save costs. They also think the municipality should become more efficient by reducing the number of civil servants, for example.
Next steps
The City Council will use the results to make choices to minimize the budget deficit for the coming years. These choices will be incorporated into the 2026 Framework Memorandum, which will be considered by the City Council before the summer. Ultimately, the City Council will decide on the plans when it considers the 2026 budget in November 2025.
Questionnaire on and offline
Residents were able to complete the questionnaire both online and on paper. Researchers also presented the questionnaire to passersby at different places and times in the municipality. We created two versions of the questionnaire, a full version and an abbreviated version. Young people under the age of 24 were given the choice of completing either the full or the abbreviated questionnaire. Thus, we made every effort in various ways to give residents the opportunity to participate.
