'Healthy in the Sun' with smart grease poles

In Voorne aan Zee , there is plenty of effort put into healthy sun behavior. With smart grease poles, sunscreen dispensers, shade cloths and information materials, together we want to prevent skin cancer. We do this in close cooperation with the Rotterdam-Rijnmond Public Health Service.

The smart grease bollards have been active for some time at various locations in our municipality. For example, the pole in Hellevoetsluis has already been used more than 2,000 times and the summer has only just begun. These poles make it easy for residents to lubricate themselves properly and also give us insight into lubrication behavior.

Broad approach

'Healthy in the Sun' is a regional program in which Voorne aan Zee is participating until 2028. Thanks to the program, schools, childcare locations and sports clubs can apply for free shade cloths, sunscreen dispensers and information materials. This can be done through the GGD's sun protection application form. Teaching programs and educational materials are also available so that children and young people in particular are properly protected from the sun. After all, young skin is extra vulnerable.

Visit from the Alderman

Today Alderman Els Priester paid a visit to the smart lube pole in Hellevoetsluis, together with representatives of the GGD. During this visit, the municipality also signed the Sun Covenant. With this we as a municipality expressly declare that we are actively committed to skin cancer prevention in the coming years. By participating in the Sun Covenant, we have access to the latest insights, prevention materials and a large network of knowledge partners, so that we can protect residents as well as possible.
