The eClock: together we ensure a stable power grid
The Netherlands has one of the best power grids in the world. Yet the grid is increasingly under pressure. We are using more power than ever and we are generating more and more solar and wind energy. Sometimes even too much at once. This causes peaks on the power grid, which can cause lights to flash or malfunctions.
That's why the municipality of Voorne aan Zee is working with Stedin to create a stronger power grid. But until then, you can help yourself. Especially between 16:00 and 21:00 we all use a lot of power. Try to spread out your power use during these peak hours. For example: run your laundry between 12:00 and 15:00 and don't charge your electric car until after 21:00.
The eClock helps you do just that.
Here's how the eClock works:
- The black pointer indicates the current hour.
- The inner circle shows the status of the power grid now:
- Green means lots of power available, a good time to use power.
- Orange means the network is under pressure, please postpone your power use.
- Red means the network is overloaded, postpone your power usage.
- The colored border on the outside shows you the state of the power grid for the next 12 hours. This allows you to smartly plan your power usage.
What can you do do?
- Avoid peak hours (4 p.m. - 9 p.m.) and spread your power use throughout the day.
- Use timers and smart apps for your appliances and electric car.
- Adjust your energy habits: small changes already help a lot.
- Do you have solar panels? Use your own solar power directly for washing or car charging, for example. This way you avoid peaks and together keep the power grid in balance.
With the eClock and your help, together we will ensure a reliable and strong power grid in Voorne aan Zee.
