South Holland Islands go for renewed care landscape Protected Housing
Today municipalities and care providers came together in Nissewaard for a festive moment: the start of the agreements for the Renewed Protected Housing in the region of Zuid-Hollandse Eilanden.

A symbolic signing marked the kickoff of better Health, where no one falls between the cracks. The signing moment marks the conclusion of an intensive tendering process and the start of intensive cooperation between the municipality and the sixteen contracted care providers.
Innovating the healthcare landscape
Over the past few months, tenders have been issued within the Zuid-Hollandse Eilanden region for this renewed healthcare landscape. As the center municipality, the municipality of Nissewaard is responsible for organizing this Health for residents of the municipalities of Goeree-Overflakkee, Voorne aan Zee, Hoeksche Waard and Nissewaard itself.
Since 2024 a new way of organizing sheltered housing has been worked on. This has mainly focused on broadening the care offer: on the one hand, more light forms of care (such as assisted living, a temporary housing facility with supervision or specialist protected residence at a distance) and on the other hand, more specialist Health for residents with complex problems. In this way, we better connect to people's personal situations and they can receive appropriate help faster and gradually work towards independence. A total of 16 different parties were awarded contracts.
Ready for the future
The coming months are all about preparing and setting up. The new residential and assisted living forms will start on January 1, 2026. Together with all partners involved, we are working hard to ensure a smooth transition to the renewed care landscape. The ambition is clear: a stable and accessible care landscape in which no one falls between the cracks.
