Mayor closes home after finding drugs and weapons
Mayor Arno Scheepers closed a residence on July 31, 2025, due to a drug violation. This is a residence in the Poets and Writers neighborhood in Hellevoetsluis. The closure is for six months.
After investigation by police, a large trade quantity of hard drugs was found at the residence in June. Also found were weapons, ammunition and explosives punishable under the Weapons and Ammunition Act. Both the drugs and weapons were seized.
Mayor Scheepers: "The trade in drugs, weapons and ammunition in the middle of a residential neighborhood is not only life-threatening but also unacceptable. Together with the police, we are taking action against this."
The decision to close the property was made under the Opium Act, the Municipal Damocles Policy and the Victoria Act. The mayor can close a property after finding a trafficking quantity of drugs to put an end to the situation and restore safety in the neighborhood.
