Mayor closes home after drugs found

On March 16, 2026, Mayor Arno Scheepers ordered the closure of a residence due to a drug-related offense. The residence is located in the De Vesting neighborhood in Hellevoetsluis, and the closure will remain in effect for three months.

Following a police investigation, a commercial quantity of hard drugs was discovered in the residence in December. The drugs were seized. The mayor is only now closing the residence, as a careful assessment was made based on the police’s findings. The resident of the property was subsequently given the opportunity to state his or her views on the matter.

The decision to close the property was made on the basis of the Opium Act and the municipal Damocles policy. The mayor can close a property after finding a commercial quantity of drugs in order to put an end to the situation and restore safety in the neighborhood.
