Mayor closes home after drugs found
On February 19, 2026, Mayor Arno Scheepers closed a residence due to a drug offense. The residence is located in the Struyten neighborhood in Hellevoetsluis, and the closure will remain in effect for six months.

Following an investigation by the police, a large quantity of hard drugs was found in the house in January. The drugs were seized by the police. Mayor Scheepers: "Drug dealing in the middle of a residential area is unacceptable and creates life-threatening situations. Together with the police, we are taking action against this."
The decision to close the property was made on the basis of the Opium Act and the municipal Damocles policy. The mayor can close a property after finding a commercial quantity of drugs in order to put an end to the situation and restore safety in the neighborhood.
